Message From Club President

I am privileged to serve this great club, the Rotary Club of Accra-West as its 53rd President. I wish to take the opportunity to salute all the Past Presidents of this Club for their immense contributions to Rotary by serving humanity. Time will certainly not permit me to provide details of the numerous service projects the Club has carried out over the last 5 decades but suffice it to say, it has been impactful and impressive.

Fellow Rotarians, Rotaractors and guests, the opportunity and privilege to make a difference in the lives of people is what drew me to Rotary. The great fellowship, friendships and significant impact our service projects have on their beneficiaries are what have kept me in. I am very grateful to my sponsor, AG Ernest Owusu-Afari, for inviting me to Rotary, an organization that opens endless opportunities for one to give back to society and to make an impact in the lives of children, families, our communities and our world. After 116 years of existence, Rotary remains the foremost international service organization with 35,000 clubs around the world and membership of 1.2 million people.

Our theme for this year is “SERVE TO CHANGE LIVES”. With this theme, Rotary International President Shekar Mehtar encourages us to do more, grow more, live for others, care for others and ultimately, to be change makers wherever we find ourselves. Two of our key goals as a Club this year are to grow our membership and to raise GHC 120,000 over the course of the year to help us complete much needed service projects. Our current service projects include Ghana Water Project in partnership with the Rotary Club of Dallas to provide nine borewells and a toilet to nine communities in the Eastern and Greater Accra regions, Equipping the Maternity ward of Larteh Health Centre, Refurbishment of the Osu Children’s Home Playground and Sponsoring a Rotary Community Corp for Osu Children’s Home.

New projects we intend to embark on are the Provision of auditory equipment and an assessment center for the Mampong Demonstration School for the Deaf, refurbishment of the washroom in the boys’ dormitory at Osu Children’s Home and the provision of a Visual Fields Analyzer (VFA) for The Eye Centre of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital to support detection and diagnosis of Glaucoma, Scotomas and brain abnormalities.

My dear Rotarians, Rotaractors and invited Guests, I appeal to you to kindly contribute generously towards our projects to provide auditory equipment for Mampong School for the Deaf and the refurbishment of the playground for the Osu Children’s home. Every contribution counts!

To all our guests, I wish to extend a warm invitation to you to consider becoming Rotarians, and to join the Rotary Club of Accra-West or to partner us and support our projects so we can together “serve to change lives”.
