Message From Club President

Today, the biggest challenge to the world is COVID-19 pandemic. This disease with no proven prevention measure has caused us to reduce significantly our social engagements, albeit economic consequences.

At least two areas of focus for Rotary: Disease Prevention and Treatment as well as Economic and Community Development appear as opportunities to relief our communities of COVID-19 infections and to further resuscitate enterprises within our communities which have been affected by the pandemic. As Rotary has already started, let us continue to reach out to communities to provide education on health and safety protocols as well as to provide protective wear to vulnerable Communities and Health Institutions. Besides, we may have to sponsor the development of new skills and enhancement of existing skills to adapt to realities of economic and social survival in our Communities.

Our theme for the year “Rotary opens up opportunities” is our charge as Rotarians to reach out and welcome more Community and Professional Leaders to make life saving impact on Communities. Rotary Priority Two on “Expand your reach” states: Let’s build connections and opportunities that will allow people who share our drive to do the same. From a year of “Rotary connects”, let us be inspired to pursue Sustainable Development Goal 17 on Partnerships. My appeal to my Club and other Rotarians is to seek beyond ourselves, our Clubs, our networks to pursue partnerships that align with Rotary International Strategic Goals for us to contribute to the other Sustainable Development Goals related to our areas of focus. It has been good news that from this year our new focus area is to support the environment; an opportunity to make our communities greener, fresher and healthier for humanity.

In our lifetime of restricted social engagements, online Rotary Club meetings have extended fellowship to other Rotarians and Guests in other towns, cities, and time zones across the world.  For the first time in the over 100 years history of Rotary, a virtual International Convention was held. As a Club, we have agreed to integrate online meetings as part of our fellowship for the sake of the precious lives of our members, other Rotarians, Guests and families.

Our Club Programme for the year is to guide us yet let us adapt further to make the most of the opportunities available to us. I am very confident that we will impact our Communities much more through our collective contributions as inspired by the words of  our hearty song “I like to give a helping hand, and join the (brother/sister)hood; with all good (men/women) throughout the land, who work for the common goal; to Rotary(3x), to give a helping hand….”.

Let us prevail together with Service Above Self.
